Memories of 2001...a pictorial

Hello and Welcome to my 2001 photo album! This has been an eventful year for sure, as the pix below will read on!!

It was in the second week of March that I left TISS and joined the LBS National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie- a breathtaking structure built amidst the most picturesque of locations! (Though that makes us do quite a bit of "mountaineering" every day- but that's another story...)

"Somil in Academyland"

I am standing in the lawn where we have most our tea parties (you can see one being prepared for in the backdrop). Also visible are two of the Academy's main buildings- the one just behind me is the admin block (named Dhruvashila) and the one to my behind and to my left is the teaching block (named Karmashila- quite apt, because most of our work is done within this building) and as its name signifies, this building is also the location for the Officer's mess, Officer's Lounge, Conference Hall and the Library)

It ain't getting higher than this..

The end of May and the beginning of June saw all of us at LBSNAA wading across the rocks, the streams and the glaciers in the Himalayas- a once-in-a-lifetime experience! At a height of about 14000 feet, this is the Dharwadhar Range LBSNAA Camp, in its full glory. With a view of the snow-clad mountains in the background, you can realize that though you see me in a half sleeved TISS T-shirt, well, it was cold, and the night that we spent there was sooooooo coooooooooold....

After a horse-riding session...

Horse-riding is one of the high moments in the academy (can be a low moment too, particularly when you find yourself on the ground courtesy an agitated horse and maybe break a bone or two...). This picture was taken at a resort where we had gone on horseback. With me in the pic is Shri Wajahat Habibullah, Director, LBSNAA (wearing a smile and a green T shirt)- one of the most respected IAS officers in the country, and Shri Sanjeev Chopra, IAS, who was then Deputy Director of LBSNAA (in a blue T-shirt). The credit of encouraging us to learn riding goes to these two gentlemen. From having never ridden a horse before, I had won the gold medal in riding by the end of the LBSNAA course...

All smiles!!!

The grand culmination of LBSNAA, with the prize distribution scheduled on the last day. And I find that I have won over a dozen gold medals and other prizes, including all the top 3 awards given by LBSNAA-a unique distinction! The Nagpal Family  (my sis, my mom, me and my dad) is all smiles, as Dr. Kiran Bedi, the chief guest at the program, and Dr. Nandi, Professor of Law at LBSNAA, share our moment of joy...

The Elephant Farm at Sri Lanka...

We had been sent on a training program in Public Finances by our department to Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA), the apex training institute of the Sri Lankan government, in December 2001. This is a pic at the Elephant Farm a little away from Colombo, where we went on our day off, along with a visit to Kandy. A popular tourist spot, this, especially with foreigners who delight at elephants sprinkling water on each other!
